04 / Architecture & integrations

Move the platform.
Reconnect the work.

The destination needs to fit your content and the services around it. We map dependencies before choosing the WordPress implementation.

Architecture first

A content model your team can work with.

WordPress pages and posts may cover part of the site. More structured requirements can need custom content types, fields, taxonomies and relationship handling.

We choose the model from the requirements, rather than forcing each source content type into the same generic page template. Editing, publishing and maintenance are part of the design.

  • Content types, fields and validation
  • Taxonomy and relationship requirements
  • Roles, review and publishing workflows
  • Search, filtering and archive behaviour
  • Language management and shared content
  • Support, ownership and maintenance

Trace the dependencies

Some connections are easy to overlook.

APIs & external consumers

Identify the services that send or receive content, the endpoints they depend on and their authentication requirements. Decide whether compatibility, replacement or a transition is needed.

Forms & notifications

Map form fields, recipients, consent wording and downstream systems. Test validation, delivery and handling of failure on the destination.

Search & discovery

Review the search behaviour users rely on: fields, filters, categories and language handling. Agree the required experience before choosing the implementation.

Templates & rendering logic

Review layouts, reusable components and any dotCMS-specific rendering logic. Rebuild the required behaviour for WordPress rather than assuming a direct template conversion.

Choose intentionally

Retain, rebuild or retire.

Each integration gets a decision, an owner and a test. A retired feature can simplify the destination; an overlooked dependency can interrupt another team’s work.

The technical approach depends on the source version, access and available exports. We confirm these before committing to an extraction or import route.

Useful source documentation

dotCMS documents CSV exports, asset exports and content APIs. Their suitability depends on the data and access available in your installation.

We arrange any credentials through a separate secure process. They are not required in the public assessment form.
